How It Works
A detailed look at every stage of the BillRazor process, from upload to savings.
1. Upload
You upload a photo or PDF of your medical bill. Our system accepts hospital bills, ER bills, dental bills, surgical bills, and pharmacy statements. The file is encrypted immediately and stored in HIPAA-compliant storage.
- Accepted formats: PDF, JPG, PNG (up to 20MB)
- Photos work just as well as PDFs
- Your file is encrypted with AES-256 at rest
2. Scan
Our system reads every line item from your bill. It identifies procedure codes, descriptions, dates of service, and amounts charged.
- High-accuracy document reading technology
- Extracts procedure codes, dates, and amounts
- Processing time: 30-60 seconds
3. Errors
Each line item is checked against multiple federal databases: fair pricing benchmarks, national billing rules, drug pricing data, and hospital price transparency data. We identify inflated charges, procedures that should be billed together, duplicates, pharmacy markups, and balance billing errors.
- Federal pricing benchmarks: is the charge fair?
- National billing rules: can these codes be billed together?
- Drug pricing data: is the medication price inflated?
- Hospital transparency data: how does this compare?
4. Authorize
If errors are found, you review the results and sign a quick authorization so we can contact the hospital on your behalf. You provide a credit card which is only charged if we save you money.
- Digital signature — no printing or mailing
- Authorization allows us to act on your behalf
- Card only charged if we reduce your bill
5. Negotiate
We contact the hospital billing department with evidence of the errors and negotiate a correction. If they do not respond, we follow up and escalate as needed until we get a resolution.
- Formal correction letter sent to billing department
- Follow-up if no response
- Escalation to hospital leadership if needed
- We handle all communication so you do not have to
6. Save
When the hospital reduces your bill, we confirm the new amount and charge your card 25% of the reduction. You keep the remaining 75%. If we cannot reduce your bill, you pay nothing. The average person saves $1,300.
- Fee: 25% of confirmed savings
- No savings = no charge
- Average savings: $1,300 per bill
- You are notified of the outcome after payment processes
